Lots of activity on the Charles

UPDATE: See comments - a body was found in the river around 1 p.m. by the Eliot Bridge on the Allston side.

Was driving eastbound on Soldier's Field Road and saw the WBZ copter take off. Then drove farther to see tons of emergency vehicles and an area around the Charles near the Eliot Bridge taped off.

Can't find anything on WBZ's website. The only thing I saw was that it might be related to a missing Norfolk man:

Anybody hear anything?

NECN has the breaking news. Autopsy tomorrow to get details like age and gender..which suggests to me that the body must be heavily decomposed to not even be able to identify gender without an autopsy.

PS - Adam, you might want to front page this.

State Police detectives assigned to the Suffolk DA's Office today responded to the Charles River and the area of the Eliot Bridge for a report of a body in the water. State Troopers assigned to the Brighton barracks observed the body after a jogger walked in and reported it shortly before 1:00 this afternoon. Signs of trauma or foul play were not immediately detected, though the state of decomposition could have hindered them; we expect to know more -- including gender and approximate age -- after an autopsy tomorrow.

This just in from the Suffolk County DA's office:

Investigators have identified the individual whose remains were recovered from the Charles River yesterday. The deceased, a 31-year-old Waltham man with a history of mental illness, was identified through comparison of dental records after State Police detectives assigned to the Suffolk DA's office sent out a teletype informing neighboring jurisdictions of yesterday's discovery near the Eliot Bridge in Brighton. Waltham Police made contact with those investigators and notified them of a missing person report dating back to November, which allowed investigators to gather additional facts confirming the man's identity. The evidence, medical and otherwise, gathered at this time does not suggest foul play.
