Boston crime report shows increase in homicides, overall crime down
The overall level of crime is down 5.6 percent so far this year when compared to last, according to the Boston Police Department. Unfortunately, homicides in the city increased; there have been 29 murders so far this year, compared to 24 at this time, last year.

Non-fatal shootings in the city are down 20%
Homicides with a firearm increased from 19 to 23
Firearm-related arrests are down 16%
Area A (Downtown Boston, Charlestown, East Boston)
Vehicle theft increased 25%
Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, and Larceny dropped slightly
Area B (Mission Hill, Roxbury, Mattapan, North Dorchester)
Reported Rape decreased by 40%
Burglary is up by approximately a third
Area C (South Dorchester, South Boston)
Robbery down
Burglary down
Vehicle theft down
Area D (Back Bay, South End, The Fenway, Allston-Brighton)
Crime down in all categories
Area E (West Roxbury, Roslindale, Jamaica Plain, Hyde Park)
Homicides up by 200%
Rape up by half
All other crime down slightly
