Business group opposes cut in state sales tax

The Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation says Question 3, which would cut the state sales tax from 6.25 to 3%, would leave us heading over the cliff:
Voter approval of Question 3 would result in across-the-board cuts of approximately 30 percent in virtually all state programs, including local aid, higher education, human services, prisons, courts, environmental protection, and state parks and beaches.

Which is why I'm voting for Grossman not
Karyn Polito. She argued that yes on 3 would get us back to 5%, that it would work as an arm-twisting measure. She treats the question as strictly political, a lever to force the legislature to lower the rate some, and not as a binding referendum-a legal construct.
Yes on 3 and Karen Polito would force the Commonwealth to create new taxes. Was that the original intent of Q3, a partisan political measure?
globe poll
By no means scientific but pretty interesting - I don't trust the Herald polls, but the Globe polls seem to generally get a reasonable read on the public pulse and if anything with a more liberal leaning. Last I checked the poll was running in favor of Question 3 by about 65-35 with about 2500 votes in. This thing could win in a landslide.
Business Group???!??
Calling the Massachusetts Taxpayer's Foundation a "Business Group" is like calling NAMBLA a child advocacy group. Those guys have never met a tax they didn't adore. They do not serve nor represent the interests of business.
Or perhaps they serve only some businesses

I couldn't find an article, but I think Widmer and MTF opposed the Verizon pole tax. If someone proposed a new statewide bank tax, they might oppose that as well.
