Channel 7: Bouchard wasn't boasting

The Herald catches up with Channel 7's general manager, who says what appeared to be a Magnum moment was actually Bouchard getting tripped up by a technical glitch:

... "It clearly wasn't intended the way people are portraying it," Wayland said. ...

As for Mr 9 inches I took a look at at the extended video and think he is innocent. If you notice he does this weird squat thing when he first walks out to the screen and then when he says "almost as big as me" he goes towards your screen. At first I thought that added to the creepiness of what he said and then I realized that he was acting as if there was something around him that was not there. Him squatting was to compare himself to an invisible yard stick of some short and him moving forward as he said "almost as big as me" was so he would make himself as big as an invisible 9 inch high snow marker that only he must have seen. My guess is that his weird look back and forth must have been in response to people in the room who must have been whispering. All of his actions were odd but would not have been that odd if there was something on the screen besides those numbers.

At least, it seems to work now.

When I saw the clip, yes, I thought it was hilarious, but I also thought he might have just been making a joke that he was short, or that he's only 9 inches tall on the TV, or something. I didn't think it was a big deal, and it's subtle enough that no one (children, grandparents, nuns, etc.) would get it unless they were thinking similarly. Now WHDH has pulled the YouTube clip claiming copyright infringement? Seriously? Way to make a bigger deal out of it than you needed to.

(Besides, isn't that fair use? The clip is just a couple seconds and doesn't provide the full weather report so as someone could get the information in its entirety from the YouTube clip, thus forgoing the need to watch WHDH.)

That you haven't heard all the variations of jokes involving snow and sex (you know, like "Why is a snowstorm like sex?").

In any case, yeah, it's kind of funny for a news organization to claim copyright on something that was clearly fair use - or to try to stuff that toothpaste back in that tube (no matter how large a tube it is). Copies of the video are all over the place now. Really.

Here on the little ol' Hub, the second most common Google phrase bringing people to the site was "Pete Bouchard" ("Pete Bouchard 9 inches" was fourth). Meanwhile, people are going a little bit nuts on Google Images looking for nudie pix of our Senator Elect - over the past two days, UHub has gotten more than 1,000 page views from people prowling Images for the naked truth about him. Hmm, I'm sensing a new market here ...

By my friendly local gay boys, upon seeing my statusususuess about going out and getting provisions.

Still, he didn't say "like my dick." All he said was "nine inches." I stand my ground. Or something.

It's really just NOW occurring to you that UHub should branch out into Hub Porn? I mean, when you posted that "Hub after dark" or whatever you called it, I didn't exactly expect it to be a list of 24-hour Dunkies locations, if you know what I mean.

I remember when people would post that picture of Scott Brown almost naked thinking it would hurt him. Even on this blog roll you have a poster who would post it at every chance. The problem is he looked damn good in the picture and he looks damn good now. Also while he does not sound like the brightest bulb (I can only assume he is smart, he has a few homes a law degree and has now won a few seats he never should have won and when he bought that truck who would have thought it was such a good purchase) he does not have that liberal whinyness about him. The best part for him is it is not a scandal shot so even people who would be a little offended by the shot did not seem to hold it against him.

Look at the poll numbers, Coakley (who is a WOMAN!!! I know I was a little shocked she was not Link from the Legend of Zelda myself) only beat Brown by a few points among women in the state while Brown won big among men.

I do know that many people are saying if he were a women and had an image like that she would never have been able to live in down. That is partially true and I think it is sexist but it is more subliminal. When I see the Cosmo piece I see a guy who is confident and in control, it is almost like looking at a Greek statue. When I look at photo shoots like this with women they general come off as more vulnerable which kind of puts people off. The problem is people also do not like overly confident female politicians. Although before we cry sexism too loud it is not uncommon for female politicians to try to use their assets to their advantage, even Hillary Clinton has attempted to use cleavage to her advantage. When I see a female politician showing a decent amount of cleavage I wonder what the reaction would be if their male collegaues had shown up to work wearing hot pants or sleeveless shirts.
