Dorchester house fire spreads to neighboring buildings

The Boston Fire Department reports a fire that started shortly after 11 a.m. at 22 Speedwell Street. quickly spread to two neighboring buildings and went to three alarms before firefighters brought it under control.

One resident on a third floor suffered burns and smoke inhalation before he could be led to safety down a fire ladder (the Dorchester Reporter has a photo).

In total, the blaze did $300,000 in damage to the three buildings and left 17 people at least temporarily homeless, the department says.
