The rough edge of SoWA: Gallery shuts down because of repeated break-ins
By adamg on Thu, 06/17/2010 - 2:07pm
Space 242, on East Berkeley Street, reports it is closed for the indefinite future:
Due to multiple break-ins in the building over the past few weeks, the gallery will be on hiatus while better security measures are taken, or a new space is secured. No artwork was stolen/damaged.
It's in the same building as the Weekly Dig and around the corner from the Pine Street Inn.

What did they steal?
I always have a couple booze-hounds come around during open studios. So maybe it was wine.
It was always interesting what got stolen back in art school, it really showed a different taste in art.
Didn't steal anything
Just kept breaking in.
Shut down the Pine Street Inn
Okay, not really. But could the police do a better job of policing/arresting the vagrants on albany, harrison and east berkeley where the inn is situated? It is no secret that these folks are dealing drugs openly in the street. It's also no secret that these same folks are causing havoc between 2-5AM - in that area of SoWa AND where dot ave meets broadway in South Boston (where I live). Isn't dealing drugs a crime? Boston police - please do something.
It is a crime
But it's okay to commit crimes in Massachusetts, so the street will remain an open air pharmacy.
It's extremely frustrating
Apparently, you are correct. It's going to to take a coordinated effort from residents to do anything about this.
Pine Street Inn was there long before SoWa or 242 or the Dig
so it's presumptuous, even in jest, to say that the Pine Street Inn is what needs to go away.
Actually ...
Space 242 is actually the Weekly Dig's offices. Some sort of a sideline they've got going on.
That's too bad...
This sucks! Definitely a case of one (or more?) bad apples spoiling it for the bunch.
It really is too bad, because it's a pretty kickass gallery that showcases some radically diverse talent.
Whoa!!
Maybe it's a disgruntled former Dig employee?
*eyes Slim, knowingly*
Wait, slim has an alibi, he was in line for the Cheesecake Factory at the time.
