Har, that's apt in that the spot was the site of the Long Lane Church. It was the largest meeting house in Boston when it came time to discuss the national constitution and vote on it. After the event, the lane was renamed Federal Street in honor of the ratification there.

The congregation outgrew the site and constructed the first public building in the new Back Bay, being land filled. That would be the Arlington Street Church.

The Long Lane minister of the time was the pinko William Ellery Channing. He was huge on religious tolerance and freedom, as well as abolition. He surely would be amused.

By the bye, his official portrait is on the board room wall at 100. The ASC owns it, but it is on loan and for safe keeping at his old digs.
