Aging trains react poorly to the cold

A Worcester Line train died this morning in Natick; commuters on that train and the one behind it, which wound up pushing it into town, were, of course, seriously late.

Some trains into North Station were delayed by the ever popular switch problems. At least one Greenbush train was also late because, well, who knows?

And just wait until it starts to snow. As it does every year, the T will act like it has never seen a flake of snow before, and will be uunprepared as things break down left and right.

Or until it gets really cold.

Or until it gets really cold. 18-19 degree days are just the first round.

Once we hit single digits, a whole new set of failures will haunt the system.

No wonder I find myself driving to work more and more.

Don't forget the Red Line

It was "experiencing delays due to an earlier disabled train" this morning in Davis. Don't know if it was weather related, but it's a good bet it was.

How old was the affected

How old was the affected equipment?

Everything is always "aging", except if it moves at the speed of light. Was the problem related to equipment that's in service longer than it should be, or hasn't had any necessary scheduled maintenance?
