Alleged drug addict charged with killing Andew Square woman across street from his house

Adam J. Cassino was ordered held without bail yesterday at his arraignment on charges he beat Barbara Tagen to death in her Andrew Square apartment last month, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Cassino, 25, was arrested on an unrelated warrant the day after prosecutors say Tagen was murdered - her body was not discovered for several days. He was sent to a drug clinic at Bridgewater State Hospital, where staffers found blood on his shoes - which turned out to have DNA matching Tagen's, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said the last time Tagen was seen alive was Aug. 23, when Cassino was "was back and forth between his house across the street from Ms. Tagen's and another house in the immediate vicinity," assistant District Attorney Ian Polumbaum said, adding that was the day Cassino's family sought to have him committed for drug abuse.

Innocent, etc.
