Assault and battery with a bodily fluid at Brookline library

Brookline suspect Brookline Police are looking for a man who did more than just fondle himself in front of a female patron at the Public Library of Brookline on Washington Street Saturday afternoon.

According to police:

He sat next to a young woman at a table set up his lap top computer and masturbated, he then stood up and ejaculated on the young woman. She screamed and suspect fled the library.

If the guy looks familiar, contact Brookline Police at 617-730-2244.

and I bet he wasnt attractive..

And sheesh.. I mean he had time to pull out a laptop, then his johnson, then rub one out, stand up, and shoot all over this woman?

Come on please.. Either he's a quick shooter or she's just an idiot and didnt realize it was going on.

Either or, I'd like to know what goes thru these folkes mind when they expose themselves to other people. I mean when in their lives did they realize that this is OK.

I used to work with Mentally Handicapped folks and we had ONE guy who would do that, but he also had an IQ of a gnat. (he didnt speak, he grunted at you). But the most part, these folks KNEW this was not OK. Let alone.. crack out a laptop, toss one off, and stand up and shoot in someone's face.

really? I mean really?

And yet you laugh. out. loud. and blame the VICTIM? Seems like your IQ isn't too high either.

another posting by anon.. *eye roll*

I wasn't blaming anyone really, but I think if a guy did ALL of that next to me, I'd be certain to notice. A guy taking out his johnson and rubbing one out in close range, I'd notice. I just find that odd.

I've seen a guy once or twice rub one out on the T at the opposite end of the car, I still notice. (and trust me what it was attached too.. *shiver*)

But in a quiet library, NEXT me to me. I'm sure I'd hear the *whack*whack* sound or some guy breathing rapidly or catch the wanking motion out of the corner of my eye before he'd ever get up and point it in my face and shoot.

I'm sorry, I just don't think that this happened just like that. Either someone was just THAT enthralled in whatever they are doing and they didn't notice what was going on beside them is just very very odd to me.

Again no blame, I've been in the zone, and I do get it, but exposed penises is something you don't see everyday.

In my one experience seeing a public whacker, I didn't notice anything till well along in the process. My guess is women don't look around much, because it makes guys come on to them.

i think women should look around more to avoid having guys coming on to them.

This comment bums me out because it's so true. I often find myself deliberate keeping my eyes down, since direct eye contact with (typically male) strangers in a public place encourages seems to encourage unwanted attention. Even for me, a mid-thirties, rather overweight lady. Can't imagine what it's like for younger "hot" women!

And yes, the net effect is that women may wind up perilously unaware of what could be happening around them.

Also, for the doubting Thomas above…isn't is possible that he was, perhaps, across the table from the victim? Thus making it more difficult for her to discern what was happening under the table?

I just hope that in the unlikely case where this happens to me, I have the presence of mind to punch the guy in the dick.

A few thoughtful comments on this page disappeared. And throwaway reactionary comments remain.

Anon2 had a comment that claimed another comment was trolling, but his/her complaint seemed off the mark, like misunderstood the comment.

Was there a database problem that lost the comments? Does someone other than adamg have the power to delete other people's comments? Is there some nonobvious policy involved?

I did it. There was one particular comment that I'd originally approved, then decided wasn't really appropriate because a) it seemed to be blaming the victim and b) went into a bit too much graphic detail about what the author imagined had happened that afternoon.

Normally, when you delete a comment, it takes all the replies to it with it. If this didn't happen in this case, my apologies for the confusion.

As to my suddenly censoring ways: There have long been two kinds of comments on UHub: Those by people with accounts, which get posted as soon as the authors hit submit, and "anonymous" comments (in quotes because there are some regulars here who just choose not to register), which go into a queue, which I have to review and then decide whether to post or not (so if you're anonymous and your comment is taking awhile to go public, I'm probably away from the computer for a bit).

I originally went this route because of the spammers (they are relentless - put in a captcha and if they don't crack that, they hire some housewives in India to post by hand), but as UHub has become more visible, I've also used it to keep the site from becoming a junior-grade Herald forum. In general, if your comment consists entirely of cursing somebody out or seems libelous or veers into basic Herald race/sex/religion trolling, I'm not going to let it through.

Am I the All High Arbiter of Everything? No. Do I make mistakes? No doubt, for which I apologize. But I let an earlier site I ran fall apart by letting any old crap through, and I'm not going to do that again.

If we're thinking of the same comment, subject header something like "key info missing", it seemed appropriate to me in context of the preceding string of reactionary comments. I tried to qualify that I believed the victim's story, but that what parts of the story we heard so far had a confusing gap. I think Pete Nice had a thoughtful response that helped address that gap.

As for the vague example scenario, that was in the context of the usual villagers with pitchforks, and I was trying to gently suggest a scenario that suggested why they should care about this gap. I tried to be vague and use a light tone ("dry cleaning bill"), and then the final sentence was an attempt to clarify my tone, something roughly like: I'm taking the victim's story seriously, it certainly sounds like she was harmed by this guy, and I'm just missing some info. I was trying not to blame the victim or offend anyone needlessly, but the question needed to be addressed.

I guess I'm pretty cynical about the villagers reaction: there are certain accusations, usually involving sex or race, that, without fail, it seems everyone vocal has instantly convicted the accused. That's very disturbing to me. And when it happens despite a glaring hole in the information, that's even more disturbing.

I usually make the same implicit assumptions of guilt that most people do, but I try to consciously compensate for that assumption of mine. It's scary to have the impression that most people don't seem to second-guess that automatic assumptions. I hope that no friend or family member of mine is ever falsely accused here, since, having read lots of news comments here, I'd be scared poopless for anyone innocent who had to go before a jury of these same people.

I understand why adamg decided to delete the comments, and I might have done so myself, just to avoid sending the wrong message to Heraldites. However, I would also have an ongoing campaign to raise the level of discourse, including discouraging reactionary comments, and reminding people of civic principles and critical thinking. Clearly, appending "Innocent, etc." isn't enough, if you read the comments that usually follow.

I always considered that a sarcastic tag-line, not a reminder of civic principles. If it's not snark, it sure looks like it.

It is yet another remind that so called 'news' sites on the internet are merely just someo person's plaything. Slap some Google ads and a witty comment or two, oh look a new job!

It is funny how people very quickly reject points of view that run contrary to their own liberal ideals (aka Whole Foods destroying JP) - just because someone acts like an ass though, doesn't always mean they are a troll. Yes a story like this attracts more of the crude elements, but shockingly, there are various points of view that always bear some truth.

If you were to look at sites that actually generate and report the news, vs some dude in a basement posting links to things he finds interesting (does that pay the bills?) you'll see some of the commenting is more visveral, more upsetting, but not censored as much as someone using their website as a plaything.

You can't have your cake and eat it too, unless you order a second slice.

Peese.

Absolutely, anon. Adam is clearly part of a broad campaign of insidious leftism in reporting, and he is somehow abridging your first amendment freedoms by deleting your trolling asshattery on his own website, so you'd best exercise what few rights you have left and flee for greener pastures. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Adam, you only seem to take abuse for your moderation strategies here, but you're doing a fine job of keeping out the race-baiters and glibertarian Herald crowd, which is more than I can say for 95% of the internet. Thanks.

I'm guessing that this guy was at least partially concealed and probably deliberately very stealthy and quiet. Not to ,mention yes--in libraries people tend to keep their eyes to themselves and focus on whatever they're reading or working on. A friend of mine in high school had her shoes stolen from under one of those big desks at the BPL while she was sitting there, having slipped them off while she was working--looked for them and they were gone. she had to have her dad come and get her--I'll never forget it!
