"Hot Dots" was often read aloud by my father at the dinner table. One of the original purveyors of caustic snark, Garboden never achieved the success that far inferior contemporaries achieved. He influenced me in many ways,as he was one of the first writers to show me the true idiocy of American television.

I will miss him and my sincerest condolences to his family.

I turned to when I picked up my weekly copy of the Phoenix. He was so withering and funny.

that was always fun to read, even if you had no interest whatsoever in TV or any of the shows listed in a particular week's column. Unfortunately I don't think it's archived online anywhere.

The Presidential Inauguration. None of the local TV stations actually has this event listed on its advance schedule, but we assume that the mid-morning coverage will be carried across all networks. Can't blame them for not committing. It was touch-and-go there for a while. The rumor mill has it that they'll be swearing in George W. Bush, and that will probably be the case even though he didn't actually win the election. Is there an asterisk big enough to cover this presidency? Look for the action in DC to start around 10 or 11 a.m. (Until 2005.)

For the kind comments about Clif. Rest assured, a Hot Dots greatest hits is in the works.
