South End Patch reports on an initial proposal for replacing the Boston Herald building that calls for a 4-5 story residential and store complex - and that some nearby residents decried the building as "too suburban" for the gritty area.

How about just giving the South End back the New York streets? That would be asking too much.
Same developer did Station Landing in Medford
If they end up with a design anything like Station Landing in Medford, it should be quite a nice complex. S.L. is a good (and sadly rare) example of a pedestrian friendly new development. And it doesn't seem that suburban to my eyes, though I haven't spent much time there.
