Homesick for an Inman Square sandwich shop

Erin is now in DC, but still pines for the All Star Sandwich Bar in Inman Square - so much so that when she checked out their specials from afar the other day, she was forced to make her own version of one of them:

I told Alex to pack, we had to get in the car, we had to get to Cambridge before they closed for the evening and the Funky disappeared forever. Sadly, he kind of just laughed at me. So, I had to devise a plan to make my own.

I visited the place soon after it opened.

The bread was stale, the amount of meat sparse. Since then, I've read a lot of hype about it.

Can anyone tell me if it's worth a retry?

Is it a great sandwich place, or a mediocre one in a cool location?

In my opinion, the best sandwiches in town are at Meridian Market in East Boston. Lambert's on Tremont Street and Ray's Sub Shop on Harrison Ave are pretty good, too.

Elsie's in Harvard Square was the greatest in its day.

Sandwiches are supposed to be fast and cheap lunch fare, not designer specialties. I prefer Harvest Coop for sandwiches. Its's nearly a full service deli, something that Cambridge lacks - unless you prefer to pay a stiff premium at Formaggio. Or Deluca's. Or Pemberton Farms.

Same here. I used to live less than a block from that place and never could figure out why there was so much hype. I'd love to hear if there is some amazing sandwich there I'm missing.
