House of Blues gets some local ownership

Live Nation is selling a 50% share of the Lansdowne Street venue to a local investor group that includes Don Law and David Mugar, House of Blues attorney Dennis Quilty told the Boston Licensing Board today.

The board votes tomorrow whether to allow the change, which Quilty said will mean no changes in the daily operations of the facility. City Councilor Mike Ross attended the brief hearing to show his support for the House of Blues.

The atmosphere inside this HoB seems designed to suck every little bit of pleasure or enjoyment out of your concert-going experience. We just went to see the Decemberists--one of our favorite bands, who we've seen in a wide variety of venues around town ever since the first time they played TTs--and it was just fucking miserable from start to finish. I don't care who plays there, I'm never going back until I hear of significant improvements.

I always feel like there's more of a commitment when owners are local. I've shot a small engagement session there and loved the vibe.
