How much does it cost to run for an at-large city council seat?

According to incumbent Felix Arroyo, it's $100,000. Arroyo told supporters in e-mail he wants to raise that much to keep being one of four at-large councilors in this fall's election:

These funds will help us hire an organizer, open an office, pay for mailings and get our vote out.

What is Arroyo's current balance in his campaign account? He has been raising money year round. At least that is my perception being on his list.

Arroyo has about $61,800 in his in his kitty. And he never donates to a penny to anything - check out his financial reports with Mass Government.

This is useful information but I am not sure what it means. Are these people who have already had their signatures validated or simply people who took out nomination papers who haven't already pulled out? My understanding is that only 7 people have passed in papers for the at-large candidacies, and that as a result there will be no primary for those races.

The seven candidates are the four incumbents, Sean Ryan, Michael Flaherty and one other.

Someone get John Donovan on the phone!
