No more jokes about JP getting a high-end bread store when pigs fly
By adamg on Tue, 04/19/2011 - 6:26pm
Steve Garfield reports Maine-based When Pigs Fly is opening an outlet on Centre and Grovenor streets - in that building that only seems to have been under renovation since the Eisenhower administration. Garfield wonders if this is the Whole Foods effect in action.
When Pigs Fly itself reports on its Facebook page it's aiming for a June opening.

Whose Foods?
What does Whose Foods have to say about this? I know the "When Pigs Fly" brand solely because it's sold in WFM.
Seems So
Their NY Rye is the real thing but it's too expensive just like WFs.
When Pigs Fly: we love them in Davis Square
They were an immediate hit as soon as they opened on Highland Avenue here.
Bread
Not to date the last time I lived in JP but whatever happened to Today's Bread on Centre Street?
Closed for over a decade
I'd almost forgotten about that place. That location has been an Indian restaurant, Bukhara, since the late 90's.
Croissant heaven
Today's Bread was my favorite JP hangout for years. First place I found in Boston that served decent croissants. The owner got discouraged when the cost of her lease went through the roof.
hmmmm
rising rents?
(don't tell the Whose Foods people...)
Most Importantly,is the CEO a Libertarian?
I have to know these things before I can decide whether it's a good fit for the community.
Their bread is always fresh.
Their bread is always fresh. Will they make sandwiches and pastries? I also heard a Starbucks is going into the old Bella Luna space (lots of work going on there). A coffee shop would be great for Hyde Square. Things are looking up.
That's funny. I heard that it
That's funny. I heard that it was going to be a Pizza Hut/Taco Bell combo.
On Jamaica Avenue?

Brookline Starbucks recruiting JP store mgr
The Brookline Harvard Ave. Starbucks is talking to employees about moving to a new "JP location on Centre Street in Hyde Square...." Sure, it could be another spot but there are only a few vacant spaces that fit the description.
Not like your rumor has any
Not like your rumor has any basis, but anyway...nothing is going into the Milky Way/Bella Luna space anytime soon. The owner was sprucing it up for showing but has no tenants and his recent ads (last week) on Craigslist backs that up.

I hope they open a store
I hope they open a store there- I've been to their stores in Kittery and Brookline and have always found many things I like.
And if nothing else, the people are friendly and there are always dozens of breads to try.
