#rubyriot: Boston Innovators Unite Tonight

Boston's startup scene constantly gets compared, negatively, to San Francisco & NYC. A group of Bostonians had enough and decided to show everyone that we might not be the biggest or most famous innovation center but we are the loudest and nothing can stop us when we work together.

Bostonians from all over are uniting tonight to show that not only is our startup scene huge, vibrant and growing but we're also willing to help each other and others purely for the sake of helping. Need a job, a lead, or just someone to bounce ideas off of? Ruby Riot is calling your name.

Nearly 1,000 local venture capitalists, angel investors, developers, designers, marketers, journalists, recruiters, entrepreneurs & mentors are congregating at not one but two bars Downtown. The main event kicks off at Scholars and because demand was so high a second event is happening upstairs at Four Green Fields.

If you've ever wanted to see what Boston's startup scene is like, tonight's the night to see it in action. If you've got an idea, are looking for a job, or just want to meet new people come out to #rubyriot. Event starts at 7PM and runs until at least 9PM and the Bruins will be on the TVs.

Because nothing says "our startup scene doesn't suck" like the site for the event being down.

I was hoping to learn what it had to do with Ruby.

According to the event's description, it has nothing to do with Ruby, which makes no sense at all.

#RubyRiot will be a riot. Well, sorta. It’s all about making connections. You help make Boston a great place to riot (umm, make connections) and everyone wins.

It was partly but heavily sponsored and organized by the Gemvara people. Not sure if that's where the name came from but would make sense + Ruby is popular amongst the startup scene.

"It's completely up to you how you use your intro. Find a spouse, someone to mentor, a dream job, a place to intern, etc. "

Find a spouse? Yeah, that's innovative.

What a stupid name.

This event has nothing to do with Ruby.

How about "Tech Riot" or "Startup Riot".

How about we be a little more positive?

Nerds can't even get the name right. The system they are using is Ruby on Rails - the language itself is Ruby. It is like referring to C++ as C.

Good move, poindexter!

for instance, Merb and Sinatra. Using the generic name 'Ruby' to cover all of them seems unobjectionable to me.
