State of emergency declared for entire state

UPDATE: State now confirms 4 deaths. Also, some looting in Springfield; National Guard will help patrol the city tomorrow.

Gov. Patrick calls up 1,000 National Guardsmen, says one confirmed fatality in West Springfield (person in car that overturned), urges people to stay off the roads, calls on school officials in tornado-hit to cancel school tomorrow.

I have a view to the south from Mefuh - I can see all the way to the back bay in winter.

...but the storm was equally frightening and awe-inspiring at the same time. The lightning was bright and vivid, and we had a couple of strikes that were especially loud.

Thankfully, we didn't get the catastrophic storms the western part of the state did, but that doesn't discount the awesome (as in powerful) nature of these storms.

I remember the mid-summer 1993 storm where it was really humid, then cooled off. The storm arrived around 7:30 and there was a tornado warning, and it was the same thing: constant rumbles of thunder, numerous lightning strikes, and such until it ended about 30 minutes later.

Strobe lights (like) in Waltham.
No lightening strikes closer than ~ 5 miles but they were firing like a strobe light across my whole field of vision. Awe inspiring.
