Yes, really, it got that far. Guy claimed the Patriots owed him and other Jets fans $185 million. Plus interest, of course.

Not a lawyer . . .
. . . but I'm amazed that something like this- with so apparently little standing- got this far.
It actually never went
It actually never went anywhere at all. He had the right to appeal the initial dismissal by the district court judge, just like anyone does. He exercised that right but was denied without any type of hearing (from what I can tell) by the appellate court and the Supreme Court. It's actually pretty standard procedure. The guy clearly has no standing and that was confirmed. There is a rule in the federal rules of civil procedure for frivolous lawsuits but don't know if that was brought up here.
The appeals court took him quite seriously
They issued a detailed ruling explaining why he should go away.
No tip-toeing around it
The Supreme Court has put its foot down. Carl Meyer will have to wait forever for the other shoe to drop now. I mean the lawsuit was pretty lofty, but it's good to see the justices have kept their feet on the ground and decided not to step into this mess.
Toes.
