Crumbling Orient Heights T stop to get rehab; work will mean service disruptions
By adamg on Thu, 01/26/2012 - 9:42pm
The East Boston Times-Free Press reports the station will be completely replaced by the spring of 2014 and that work to begin later this year will mean the station will be shut for six months and that buses will replace trains past Airport on weekends for four months.

The T should really just
The T should really just bustitute past Airport permanently. It's not like anyone with political influence or the ability to coordinate their community really lives there anyways. I mean, they're all anchor babies and illegal immigrants, right? "Temporary suspension of service" and bustitution has been a success on the E line past Heath where natives live, so if the T wants to save money, this is a good way to do it.
And now, am I serious or not?
Cripes.
If that's your attempt at humor...
stick to your day job at Tedeschi's.
Outdated feature
The Orient Heights T stop has some very outdated features, such as a T map on the inbound wall that dates from 1972 or so. It shows the Red Line ending at Harvard, for example. Although it should be an embarrasment to the T that such an outdated thing was never fixed/updated, it is kind of interesting from a historical perspective.
Copley had maps showing the
Copley had maps showing the A-line. Watching tourists try to use them was hilarious. Also, the orange line was useless because they had all the old station names.
Until about a year or so ago, there
was a map at Government Center facing the Green Line westbound track that showed the A line as well.
Inside the Orange Line station at Forest Hills
There's still a set of stairs that allegedly leads you to commuter rail and the Arborway line.
To be fair, the Needham line
To be fair, the Needham line DOES stop there. I take it sometimes to make a faster connection to the Red Line.
Indeed it does
Sorry, I was referring to the green-and-white Arborway sign that's still there :-).
Park St
There is still even signage for Arborway on the outbound platform at Park Street (at least next to the bench closest to the exit/stairs).
I thought the T was broke
They're spending $51M to add 4 elevators and 2 escalators to a station that is at street level?
I'm sure it won't be at street level...
I'm sure it won't be at street level when they are done with it. It will be the typical overbuilt monstrosity that the T replaces perfectly functional stations with. Like they did with Wood Island, also on the Blue Line. When they are done with Orient Heights it will be full of unnecessary stairways, overhead walkways, mazes, strange "sculptures",all kinds of loops surrounding the whole thing, and any other kitchen sink the non-T riding people designing it can think of.
grade separation
People tend to frown on being forced to cross subway tracks at-grade.
