Decline of Sox mirrored by decline of NESN

Joy of Sox is no longer getting much joy from Sox games - and not just because of what's going on on the field:

NESN gives us worthless "tours" of concrete hallways in other stadiums and asinine non-baseball segments. Worse than that, the network often fails to show the action on the field.

Announcers Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy have become sad parodies of themselves. While Orsillo still calls a decent play-by-play, he also swamps viewers with waves of useless information between pitches and batters. Remy, ostensibly an analyst, offers no analysis whatsoever.

Wah wah wah...at least you're alive to complain about it. Everything's not perfect in heaven either, you know.

And really disects the issues with the NESN broadcast. Orsillo can't apparently stand any "dead air" and Remy, who essentially yells at us during most of his time, has devolved into our own local Joe Morgan (not the BoSox Manager, but the ESPN "analyst"), who could be compared to fingernails on a chalkboard.

and yet they still are one of the most profitable franchises and charge some of the highest prices to see a game in a 'quaint' [READ: ancient and tiny] ball park.

Quaint? Does that refer to the practice of putting lipstick on a pig?

You're complaining? At least you get to see every game on TV. Back in my day, it was one or two games a week, maybe. A little further back, during my childhood, it was radio or nothing weekdays, with maybe broadcast of the Saturday or Sunday games, if that. Hell, go back to my grandfather's day and there wasn't even radio. And my great-great-great-grandfather had to settle for going to the town green and watching folks bait a bear because there wasn't any baseball at all!!!

Wait until baseball is played on Mars with jet packs, computer-aided batting gloves and hoverbases and the young whippersnappers of 2247 are complaining because the implants in their eyeballs aren't capable of receiving more than 23 games at once and Vin Scully XIV is boring them to death by going on and on arguing with BaseballAbstractRobotAnalyst2709 about whether Barry Bonds' hypodermic collection at the Hall Of Fame is better than Roger Clemens' hypodermic collection.

Get off my infield!

... when about half the Red Sox games were broadcast on free TV. The Red Sox station moved around from year to year - sometimes it was 38, sometimes 25, sometimes 56, sometimes 68 -- but they showed lots of games. If you wanted ALL the games, you got cable and NESN, but broadcast TV was enough for most casual fans.

Same was true for the Celtics and Bruins, by the way.

You're right, of course. I went overboard for humor (and maybe drowned.)

I think that's a great new feature of nesn broadcasts.

Jenny Dell on-screen more often is the only thing that can make this September watchable. Preferably in a bikini or less.
