Drunk makes the mistake of getting in the face of some stoners on the Common on 4/20, gets punched to the ground, then some of the stoners rifle his pockets as he lies there, apparently unconscious. The Metro has one of the videos, which was posted to YouTube with this description:
Old drunk guy was walking around abusing and screwing with every ones high, didn't exactly deserve what happened - but it makes for fun viewing.
Gets robbed and all LOL.

Wandering around muttering and screaming at people, but not doing anything overtly violent, at least based on a couple of the other videos on YouTube (just search on Hempfest Boston, then sort by date). He certainly didn't deserve to have his lights punched out by some chickenshit douchebag standing behind his chickenshit douchebag human shield. I hope he eventually got some help.

Doesn't make it right, but who knows if Mr. drunk has a knife on him. And he kept getting closer and closer, to the point the guy closest had to put his hands up to keep him back.

Looked to me like the stoner in the blue shirt stepped into the drunk guy's path first. Drunk guy definitely shouldn't have been leaning into the stoner's space, but I wonder if he would even have lingered had not the stoner engaged him.
And the punch from behind the blue shirted stoner was beyond ridiculous, as was rifling through the drunk's pockets. Seriously, people? What is wrong with you?
Not Hempfest, just random stoners
According to the Metro story, Hempfest (aka the Massachusetts Cannabis Reform Coalition's Freedom Rally) is in September. This was just random 4/20 stoners hanging out on the Common.
The guy who sucker-punched the older fellow shows up really clearly in the video. If the police can figure out who he is, I hope they charge him. Shame the folks who rifled his pockets when he was down didn't get clear cameos.

Unstonerlike behavior
This was very unstonerlike behavior. Granted, the drunk jerk was provoking them, but they should have ignored him and he likely would have left(or passed out)on his own. And the rifling through his pockets was really uncalled for.

Which, to be fair, doesn't mean the other guy can commit battery.

. . . that is about as good a "jackpot" as a drunk can get without going to jail. Perhaps seeing himself walking around the Commons in an alcoholic delusional state- and then getting sucker punched by local toughs- might stay this guy's hand from the bottle long enough to do something about his life- which can be summed up by that flat back landing he took to the ground.
And a year in jail for punching a belligerent delusional drunk? A year? In jail? I've been punched when I was that drunk and I deserved it. And that comment got 5 likes? And we wonder why we have the most prisoners in the world bar none? Geesus. Look up the word DRACONIAN.

thes scumbags deserve to do some time. he was knocked out and robbed while unconcious, is that a felony? is that a strong armed burglary? why is it that whenever i see one of these "knockout" videos there is a black dude that has to stand over the victim and tell him he got knocked the F out? hilarious! is that joke kind of old now? if the kid who intially got into with the drunk guy hit him i wouldnt care but this was a suckerpunch and unarmed robbery. disgusting.

. . . you let the drunk guy decide if he wants to press charges and mind your business. If he does - he can then get on the stand and look at the kid who punched his crazy drunk ass and demand he go to jail for a year.

It's not just up to him. If the state decides they have enough evidence to convict the sucker-puncher of battery and a judge agrees, they can bring charges whether the old fellow agrees or not. He can refuse to be cooperative (opening himself up to legal action), but I suspect that his testimony wouldn't actually be required, given the existence and clarity of the video.
Imo, someone willing to punch out another human, apparently just for yucks (cf sucker-puncher was not the guy being yelled at) - is a danger to the rest of us. Not sure he needs prison time, but I wouldn't have a problem with him having to check in regularly and show he's keeping his nose clean.

Group of dumbass, so-called peaceful stoner animals sucker punches the lone dumbass, knocks him out, dances over him, robs him and videotapes the entire thing.
The side I pick is the one the rest of us are on
Thugs and thieves are still thugs and thieves whether they're preying on drunk idiots or your mother. Of course I wouldn't want this moron yelling in my face - and I'd call the law down on his drunk ass if he tried.
But I'd pick a loser like him any day over a young thug willing to physically assault someone while laughing and a crowd of people willing to rifle through the pockets of an unconcious victim of violence.
I can't speak for the drunk here . . .
. . . but if it were me and my choices were between waking up in my own bed with a sore jaw and a missing wallet- or waking up in a jail cell with even a minor charge hanging over my head and all the hassle and costs that would entail- not to mention the petty humiliations the court would impose on me? I'd take the crack to the jaw and a stolen wallet any day over someone calling the cops on me and getting me arrested. I'd consider myself LUCKY.
I could do without the video on the internet though.
