Northeastern steals somebody else away from City Hall

Will Onuoha, the mayor's liaison for the Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Mission Hill and Fenway for the past six years, is moving over to a similar job at Northeastern's Office of City and Community Affairs - where his boss will be John Tobin, who left the city council for his current job as a Northeastern vice president a year and a half ago. In an e-mail message today, Onuha wrote:

Through our steadfast devoted partnerships we have fought many battles to preserve the integrity of our neighborhoods, and through it all we have succeeded in strengthening the fabric of our neighborhoods. We have continued to make a difference for the community and I have learned so much during my time as the Neighborhood Coordinator/ District Representative and for that I am truly grateful.

NU is a good school, but we don't need more students in our neighborhoods, we don't need them taking the YMCA. They are the 1%! they got the money to hire city insiders, to forward there agenda, community process is being sold to the highest bidder.

Oh, stop it. The YMCA is a private, not-for-profit who made a deal with NEU.

Who, I might add, will have students in "your" neighborhood no matter what.

All you pearl-clutchers bitch about students taking up the neighborhood housing stock, but when the universities try and build, you pearl-clutch because of TEH SHADOWZZZZZZZZZ.

Cripes.

During my most recent discussions with my "advisor", I was wondering why NEU had such incompetent staff. Not only that, but wondering why my program keeps going through advisors. They must be getting all of their employees from Boston's political circles!

The new job can't be very similar to his old one. State ethics laws won't let him do any work with city government for the next year. Or anything remotely connected to his old job. Not unless he wants to get himself and Northeastern in trouble.

His old job as mayor's liaison was meeting with residents and business owners in certain neighborhoods. His new job title is "community liaison," which sounds like he will be meeting with residents and business owners in certain neighborhoods, only for Northeastern instead of City Hall. It's the same type of job, but it doesn't mean he's going to be negotiating deals with the city.

I'm not saying he can't work there, but the revolving door is not as simple as you imply, esp if any of NUs many neighborhood malcontents are looking to cause trouble. Presumably Tobin knows the ropes, he must have had similar issues when he started his job.

With this hiring, I'd guess they are planning more than student dorms.
