One man's mission to rid Brookline of graffiti

Brookline Graffiti delivers what it promises: Photos of graffiti - and the anonymous blogger's war on it:

As you can see, the razor just scraped away what would have been many layers of scrubbing! Usually you have to alternate a layer of scrub with a layer of scraping, as the solvent penetrates on each pass. But in some cases, like on this mailbox, I got almost all of it off on the first scrape.

Whenever I have a smooth surface, I always have my long razor handy. It saves a lot of time, and sometimes, is the only way you’ll get some paints off the surface.

Boston could use about 50 of that guy.

I actually applaud this mans efforts, but graffiti artists often love websites like this and the attention it brings. There is a good chance that some of these artists will keep coming back to Brookline because they know there will always be clean surfaces with guys like this around.

My dad has had some trouble with vandalism in his neighborhood. He found they stopped if their "art" was up for less than a day. They want a canvas with enough permanance that others can see the work or respect their turf or whatever. If you quickly take it down, they will move on to less vigilant buildings after only a day or two.

I have found that a lot of the graffiti artists in Boston are younger students (art students) who tend to mark up things on their way home from places late at night. Most of these marks are not meant to be "art", they are simply marks of convenience on items they simply pass by on their way to work or home.

Through reading his blog, this dude seems like a total ballsack. I feel like this bros free time would be better spent at like a soup kitchen/big brother big sister kinda thing. Oh well to each their own... also not to nitpick, but isn't what this dude is doing also technically graffiti, as in he has no more of a right to cover it up with paint than they (the vandals) do painting it.

Why is he a ballsack? Because he actually shows some civic pride?

And no, what he is doing is not in any way graffiti. He clearly takes great pains to match paint colors and restore surfaces to their original appearance. It's not something I've got the time or the inclination to do myself, but every community could use someone who cares as much as he does.

If you think that person is a "ballsack" than you must be a real piece of work. Maybe instead of being a douchebag on UHub you should volunteer for Big Bros or Big Sis.

This is by far the best entry on his blog:

I'm surprised that Brookline allows people to go wandering around with a long razor. Razors are used in violence! What about the CHILDREN?

He just has to carry a mohel license from the city.

a)Cities' and towns' graffiti files, photos.
Cities' graffiti officers' files, photos are public record. Compile the photos and put them online for artists, art lovers.

b) Guides to graffiti.
What guides are there to the ornamentation of letters for folks attempting to read the words, the letters?...

This comment reminds me of the scene out of the movie where he pastes all the news articles on the wall and tries to decipher their supposed meaning.

But appreciated nonetheless!
