Let's start with cobras.
OK, Steve Annear alerts us it's really a way to help a woman with multiple sclerosis pay for insurance coverage under COBRA.

Does she know that it's open
Does she know that it's open enrollment for the state's Health Connector? If she lives in-state, she might be able to buy new insurance for less than the COBRA premium. I just found some for $425 a month that will cover the doctor visits, MRIs, and meds for fairly low co-pays. $425 is still pretty steep, but it's less than the $622 she needs a month for COBRA.
