My kid is going through an All Curious George All The Time phase, so it's entirely possible I'll be the person keeping this place in business.

I will be a little sad if it's only George stuff, though. I loved the wide variety of toys & stories you could find at the old store, but something is better than nothing.

Hirsch doesn't seem to realize that what people loved about the old store was that it was a GREAT BOOKSTORE.

-1 Cynical for Scratchie

The original store was loaded with books, sure. But also toys, videos, stuffed animals, etc. All the most successfull children's book stores in the Boston area follow this model (cf, Blue Bunny, Branbury Cross, henry Bear's Park, etc).

And perhaps Mr. Hirsch is less concerned with what (in the end, not enough) people loved about the old store, but what a healthy amount of young readers and their families will be attracted to in the new incarnation. If they change the mix, but keep the spirit, I think most people will be pretty darn happy.
