A train died at Oak Grove around 8:30 a.m.

Disabled train was actually more around 7:30-7:45am or so. I think the Tweet you saw was merely someone parroting the in-station announcements. Or -- which can easily be imagined -- there was a second disabled train.
Is the amount of MBTA failures a new thing, or are they just being reported more?
But it also seems like this sort of thing is happening more frequently of late.
It would be interesting to see a statistic, not that I can imagine the MBTA being pumped about providing one.
They haven't updated it since the summer, but the MBTA does have a "scorecard" which does include vehicle failure rates, measured as miles between failures:http://www.mbta.com/about_the_mbta/scorecard/
