She boots Frye over Newbury Street tree massacre

The Proper Bostonian writes she could deal with a Frye boot store replacing one of her favorite restaurants - Charley's at Newbury and Gloucester. But she will not abide by the arboreal destruction she says Frye committed outside the location - eight trees chopped to bits:

Besides the kousa dogwoods there was a white birch, and other trees. It's a grim scene and a great loss to our neighborhood. ... Since I love boots and live in them, I was looking forward to buying some Fryes from the new store. I know they make spectacular bags, too. Now I think - no, I know - I can never own a pair of Fryes or a bag. At least not until there are twinkling lights on some tall kousa dogwood trees on that corner again. I will miss the trees far more than I will miss the boots or the bag. I'll bet I'm not the only customer they lose over this.

This is a crime. Charley's wasn't the best food on Newbury by far, but that patio was a lovely place to hang out and people watch from. Sadness. :(

Glad I'm not the only one. I was pretty chafed when I walked down yesterday morning to see them gone. Frye is not getting off to a good start pulling this bullshit.

First 8 people murdered in the city this year now 8 trees at the corner of Newbury and Gloucester? Get out the yellow tape BPD, we got killing everywhere.

Not like people can possibly care about both! There would be no concern left for anything else!

So, stop caring about trees - YOU ARE WASTING PRECIOUS CONCERN!

Assuming you can find Boston on a map, and know the meaning of the word "problem", it seems you are sympathetic to the original poster.

The company "will plant four little trees along the curb and one bigger tree on the property."

So perhaps she can sit under the "big tree" in her Frye boots?

Have you seen how many trees they've killed in the Fenway already? The traffic circle looks like a different place now.

trees in the Fenway?

I can't think of one in the Fenway. Also, what does that have to do with Newbury Street?

I assume they are referring to the circle at the Landmark Center. I think that is all related to the Muddy River restoration, but it was too bad that the trees were chopped.

since it was a temporary replacement for the Sears parking lot that used to be there.
