Charlie with a beard

Only Charlie won't use it, at least not until after the World Series, when maybe he and his pal Officer Horgan will shave the beards off for charity.

The T has posted an explanation of service after the Sox game - basically, if runs long, the T will extend subway hours or hold some commuter-rail trains.

Is that really possible? Seems like it takes more than 15 minutes to escape Fenway Park when everyone is trying to leave at once.

The alert I got yesterday stated that subway trains would be run until 45 minutes after the end of the game. Based on my experiences of going to Sox games, even that isn't enough time to clear everyone out - especially considering people who have to make other subway or Commuter Rail connections.

And WTF with the Commuter Rail trains? Hold a few trains later, but have others leave on their regular times? So if people use a certain line, they have to leave the game early or miss their connection home?

The fact is that the T's handling of World Series games (or any other playoff series) has always been a huge cluster. The "extra service" on the Green Line normally means that trains that would otherwise go through to North Station or Lechmere are diverted at Park Street to run back to Kenmore, or that they hold the "last trains" of the night for 10 to 15 minutes at several of the stations as they progress down the line (if you don't believe me, listen in on the Green Line dispatcher's frequency tonight - it's 470.6375).

If the T were serious about providing adequate service (ha ha), they would have enough Green Line trains "on ready" so they could ramp up to rush hour frequency by the middle of the ninth inning, ramp up the other subway lines to rush hour frequency by the end of the game, and hold ALL last commuter rail trains until R after the end of the game (and R should be at least one hour to insure people can make connections). And instead of this "if necessary" BS in the current announcements, they could actually announce to the public beforehand - We expect the game to run until X, we will provide full subway service for fans until Y, and the last commuter rail trains will be held until Z. If the game goes longer than that, we will run full service until Q minutes after the end of the game, and the last commuter trains of the night will be held until R time after the game.

Are you still able to pick up the Green Line? Haven't been able to pick them up on my scanner for the past two weeks or so.

as of last weekend. But you're right, I couldn't pick up anything last night. Glad we pay all the tax money to the T so they can hide what they're doing from the public.

Read your rant!

of "rant". Then you might figure out that explaining what's wrong with the current system, and offering realistic suggestions as to how to change the system so it works, hardly qualifies as a "rant".

Well, at least we now know how to get late-night service to the MBTA - just have the Red Sox in the World Series every night.

these "professional" athletes are paid for what they actually do to earn said pay, the Red Sox should be in the World Series every year. And if they aren't, we should demand they take a whopping huge pay cut.

And, service until after the end of the game, but no later than 1 am, is hardly "late night".

They hold the trains until everyone gets there. I happened to be there after a patriots game and they waited very late. They won't close the doors if people are still coming through the gates. feel bad for the bus drivers. a bunch of drivers are waiting for the last batch and that will run really late if the game runs late. 210 etc

Don't feel too bad. They get to choose that shift, and get plenty of extra pay.
