Citizen complaint of the day: Somebody really had to work to take this tree down

Dead street tree in Roxbury

Who goes around cutting down street trees? Well, besides the Brighton tree ninja, that is. A concerned citizen reports from Moreland Street in Roxbury today:

Last night someone used a saw to cut down the street tree.

My guess is a bike or scooter was locked to the tree and a thief cut down the tree.

so I guess you haven't heard about the tree cutters in Southie - a bunch of 'yuppies' lost their view of the beach when the trees grew (trees do that??). So one of them went out at night and chopped them down.

I just googled this and didn't see any news stories on the "tree killing yuppies in southie" so i say it's bunk. The Brighton tree ninja is a real person and his abused trees have been pictured here regularly. Unfortunately he is a nut.

Here is a link to the Boston Globe article. The incident happened in June - however I have not heard that anyone has been identified as the culprit. No idea whether it was a "yuppie" as the other person alleges or some other individual.....bottom line is that 5 trees were cut down on a strip of land across the street from the beach. If I recall correctly, they have been replaced.

How about a UHub article (or the WCVB report referenced within it)?

Was it a 'gang' of 'yuppies'? Who knows - but it seems very likely it was an over-entitled resident who wanted a better view.

(Btw...people who actually voted anon's comment up - guess you're really new around here. This story is less than five months old and was reported by most of the Boston media.)
