one of the last true "neighborhood" bars. it's very sad saying goodbye to so many things in Brighton. it once was a truly great neighborhood. Castlebar, Joeys, Imperial, green briar, the old Dunkin' Donuts (maybe just the sign?) The neighborhood has done a complete flip in the last five years and it's sad to see it lose so much of its soul and identity. every parking lot is now a rental storage place or a Mexican taco chain restaurant. everything going in down by new balance is going to completely wipe out the neighborhood between North Beacon, Cambridge street and Brighton center. just sad to see it all go so quickly.

The New Balance development is going to wipe out the neighborhood? How? Replacing a bunch of parking lots and vacant industrial warehouses with a commuter rail station, offices, retail, and needed housing? More people will want to live in Brighton when that stuff is finished.

do not understand the neighborhood, it's more than parking lots and vacant industrial warehouses. mixed in are a lot of homes that have been overrun in the last twenty years by students and corporate America . people who lived in this neighborhood for 100 years that didn't want to leave. i'm all for new balance and the commuter rail station and I understand progress but I'm just speaking of the sadness for the things that will and have been lost in the changes.

The New Balance project is replacing a couple of abandoned factories and warehouses, but is certainly not replacing any residential properties. With a commuter rail stop, the Celtics and Bruins moving their practice facilities there, and additional jobs and housing, it can only mean good things for the neighborhood.

Maybe the additional workers and residents can keep the Irish Village and "stinkin Lincoln" from going under, too.

Joeys and the Castlebar were true neighborhood icons and they definitely will be missed.

Last I heard, the Green Briar was still alive and kickin.

There's always the Bus Stop. You'll never kill that place.

For what it's worth, the high price of real estate (caused mainly by outside speculators /absentee landlords) is whats killing the neighborhood. No one can own a house here anymore
