Extended dry weather brings brush fires

Brush fire along the Neponset River in Dorchester

Belden photgraphed the beginnings of a brush fire along the Neponset River in Dorchester, around 2:20 p.m. At 3, she reported exits 11B and 11A on the Expressway were closed, since the fire's now right under the bridge.

"This fire started with a match..."
If you smoke, use your ashtray. Don't throw your butts out the window.

That fit into a cup holder. No excuses. I saw a guy in a sporty new convertible throw a butt out window once.

Caught up to him at next light. Complimented him on car. Happy response. Then asked if it came with an ashtray. Very unhappy response.

That's unfortunate if you're a smoker, but it's still your responsibility to dispose of your burning trash responsibly. If you have to stab it out on your leg to do so, then by all means.

That'll definitely happen. Nobody's more considerate than a Massachusetts driver who smokes.

The extended dry period really messed up my favorite time of year. Everything's going directly from green to brown, and directly from brown to lying on the ground.

Not in Western Mass it isn't. Looks to be an epic foliage year.

Western Mass... you mean, like, Newton? I'm not going all the way out there.
