Two suffer smoke inhalation in Roxbury fire

The Boston Fire Department reports a woman and a child had to be taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation after what turned into a two-alarm fire broke out on their floor of the apartment building at 55 Brookledge St., shortly before 7 p.m.

The department estimates the fire, which started on the second floor and spread to the third floor of the four-story building, did $250,000 in damage.

The cause is under investigation.
