Flooding forces evacuation of West Roxbury nursing home

Ambulances lined up outside Spaulding in West Roxbury

Ambulances lined up on the parkway outside Spaulding.

A roving UHub photographer reports ambulances and MBTA buses were lined up outside the Spaulding Nursing and Therapy Center on Centre Street - across from the Hebrew Rehab Center - to evacuate patients after a basement pipe burst around 1:30 a.m.

Some patients were taken down the street to Faulkner Hospital; the better off were allowed to sit in the MBTA buses. The flooding forced the shutdown of the nursing home's electrical system, which meant elevators were inoperable during the evacuation - which ended around 5 a.m. when the leak was fixed.
