Keytar Bear as trend setter

Furry musicians in Boston's Public Garden

Stevil ran across these fine furried musicians in the Public Garden yesterday.

Is there a Mrs. Keytar somewhere that popped these guys out? They were very good despite the somewhat ridiculous costumes. I wanted to read them a bedtime story. :-)

If I remember, those jammies are a fad in Japan, interesting to see them end up here with what I assume is a neobluegrass band.

Furries are creepy. If you don't know what I'm talking about then google it. Can we keep the weirdos out of the Public Garden please?

Please, these people aren't furries. They're a bunch of goofs playing music. If they bother you that much, stay home.

Sorry. It's creepy for grown men to dress up as children's characters! Not sure why you're so upset about it. You should be more concerned about serious issues, not anon commenters thinking men dressed up as furries is kind of icky.

Wally must really freak you out.

But it's Wally-specific. Worst nightmare is being stuck in an elevator with that hoed up dude.

Other sports mascots and Berklee kids on a lark? Carry on, please.

Sad that people of color need to dress fully in costumes on the street or in commercials (think hamsters in a car) in order to get work or better tips.

Is there a point at which racist remarks by registered users warrants banning?

trying hard to understand this (not sure why, though).

None of these costumed individuals appear to be people of color. I think the Keytar Bear guy is black. Did someone say something to the effect that black musicians need to dress up in order to get tips and MarkK is now using their argument here for sarcastic effect? I haven't kept up with many threads recently so I have no idea if this is the case, but a fumbling attempt at irony or a turnabout argument is the only way that I can make sense of why MarkK has said this gibberish.

Am I in the ballpark?

... offhand racist and homophobic remarks.

...it wasn't a gay black man on a bike in Arlington then.

I mean I get the shtick, it's just I couldn't really piece together the logic of that post even within that frame of reference.

I find it sad that people of color find that they get better tips by wearing costumes that obscure their race.

How is that observation in any way racist, except in your imagination?

I'm a fairly regular reader and have never construed a single MarKK post as racist.
