Marathon bombing victim holds up prosthetic leg in face of Tsarnaev supporters
By adamg on Thu, 12/18/2014 - 10:21am
WCVB reports on the scene outside the Moakely Courthouse this morning before a hearing in the Dzhokhar Tsarnaev case:
As Marc Fucarile was entering the courthouse, he overheard Valerie Vanetta and Karin Friedemann speaking to the media about the case and their support of Tsarnaev.
Fucarile stopped, lifted his prosthetic leg and asked the supporters, "That's trickery?" before he continued into the building.
Like the job UHub is doing? Consider a contribution. Thanks!
Could have avoided this costly circus.....
They never should have let him leave that boat alive......
Because our constitution specifically says that "Police have the power to kill someone if they, through summary judgement, pronounce the suspect to be guilty and think the trial will be expensive".
Oh, no, wait, it says we have the right to due process concerning revocation of our liberty and lives, and suspects are presumed innocent until guilty.
But, hey, it sure FEELS GOOD to IMAGINE it from your armchair, eh?
Looks like the terrorists have won, then. We've lost all sense, reason, and belief in the things like our most basic founding laws that make this a free country. I guess that's one way for them to destroy America ... from the inside out.
Sarcasm Fail :P
All things considering, that first paragraph seems totally accurate :p
What is the theory the two ladies subscribe to?
I ask because I'm unfamiliar.
1) Are that saying Tsarnaev did not do the crime(s)?
2) Is Todashev part of their theory? His death is suspicious, not just because he died at home while being questioned by FBI with Mass State Police present but because the FBI kept changing the story abut what happened and most of it was leaked to the press which means they leaked it (The witness was dead.)
nope and nope
Just a general comment on police conduct around the nation.
One way for them to destroy America
Yep. Police should shoot to kill, and if we capture a terrorist alive, torture them until they tell us Al Qaeda and Iraq are working together so we can start an offensive war (illegal), spend trillions, and kill 5,000 Americans for reasons that have nothing to do with the ones you were told.
You should be very scared that so many people in this country, who fancy themselves as patriotic, buy into Dick Cheney Republicanism.
... one is ultimately (potentially) able to get a lot more information from a captured terrorist / murderer /etc than from a dead one. Understanding the "whys" behind people's catastrophe-inducing actions is actually rather useful.
Not just the "why"
Also the "who else".
At the time
Little was known about the brothers, even by the FBI. They knew he was involved in the bombing and they knew he was involved in the murder of a cop. And that's about it.
To have let the police kill him in the boat would have been giving into mob justice and that's not what this country is about.
Seeing as how much money already needed to be spent caring for and cleaning up after the bombings I'm more interested in seeing the kid rot in jail for the next 60 years instead of getting a quick death by a cop with a gun or via some painless poison in the veins. Once he's convicted he'll have 60 years to dream about what he could have been and second-guess his planned eternal salvation.
I'm surprised he didn't bleed to death or die of exposure before he was found.
Never get out of the goddamn
Never get out of the goddamn boat...
Good for him!
A little reality in the face never hurts.
That said, why the hell is this case still in Boston? This is a small town - everyone has some connection to somebody who was involved in this, sometimes on both ends (for example: Cambridge Ringe and Latin alone is huge and anyone who went there or had kids there at the same time is out ...).
It will save enormous amounts of tax dollars if they just ship this trial somewhere else.
As the (alleged) crimes happened in Boston
the trial should be in Boston. I wouldn't consider people in New York or Washington DC to truly be a jury of the suspect's peers.
As for your comment about tax dollars being wasted - there's a simple solution. Assuming there's a guilty verdict inthe case, refuse to hear any appeals except those where new evidence (i.e. not avalable at the original trial) that establishes the suspect's innocence.
Find something in our Constitution and two centuries of case law that make your proposition viable.
Otherwise, look up the Innocence Project for the reasons that appeals are necessary.
I never said appeals were unnecessary
What is unnecessary is the practice of granting appeals on total BS like "the guy was proven guilty, but he claims his lawyer was incompetent". Or the total BS of "a cop in uniform can't detain a drunk driver who hit him when he's out of his jurisdiction."
ANd I firmly believe that if a person truly believes they've been wrongfully found guilty of a crime, the onus is on them to prove their innocence beyond a reasonable doubt. And that should be done with actual EVIDENCE supporting ther innocence, not bogus "inaequate representation" arguments or other legal semantics or other technicalities.
Again, see also http://www.innocenceproject.org/
See how many innocent people in this country have suffered because of what you consider a "total BS" appeal.
We can't just make shit up as we go along because we don't like the defendant or because someone was convicted of a heinous crime. Or because some "rationality with out reality" type thinks it makes sense.
Again, read what I said
I have no objections to appeals where exculpatory evidence establishing a persons innocence that could not be previously presented is provided in support of that appeal.
However, if a person hires a lawyer, it should be incumbent upon them to check on that lawyer's background first. And "well, the lawyer didn't think of that the first time", isn't a valid reason to give a person a do-over AFTER they were found guilty by a jury."
But let's continue on this nonsense of "innocent after proven guilty" that drives the appeals process.
And when your public defender falls asleep, it's your job to...
...prod him awake, or else you're clearly guilty and deserve the death penalty. (yes, public defenders have been caught sleeping during trials involving the death sentence, leading to much debate over whether that was actually fair or not. Eventually the Fifth Circuit decided that it wasn't fair, and ordered a new trial. However, they were careful to note that if your public defender is drunk, high, or suffering from Alzheimer's, but is actually sitting in the courtroom, you are in fact "represented" and thus can be sentenced to die.
People who end up stuck with
People who end up stuck with a public defender don't have a choice of which lawyer they get. These are more often than not the "ineffective counsels" that end up causing appeals.
Because the judge denied the defense motion for change of venue
I agree with you (and the defense), but the judge didn't. From the bottom of the linked article:
Because the judge ruled
Because the judge ruled against a change of venue. Although I believe a second motion for such is still pending.
Aaaa the crazy left
Look at this cooks FB page.
Tsarnaev has supporters? in Boston?
I am amazed. Also, that Facebook profile is now "unavailable."
The crazy left?
Hey, we can dream - but it seems like they are all still here, regardless of political leanings.
Whatever that woman's leanings, it's funny that this is being pinned on loonies from the left when the conspiracy theorists who believe the government was behind these types of acts are led by the far right.
Deval's response to Alex Jones was absolutely perfect.
Alex Jones isn't right wing.
Alex Jones isn't right wing. He's a self proclaimed "libertarian" fruit-loop with an extra serving of nuts.
Libertarians are the epitome of
conservatism. Me first and screw everyone else. Jezus the right wing echo chamber is nothing but a regurgitation of of Randian porn and Alex Jones is small potatoes in that world.
How do you figure Alex Jones
How do you figure Alex Jones is a member of the far right?
He hates Obama.
Not many "left wingers" hate Obama.
Your statement would be
Your statement would be accurate 7 years ago. Today, not so much.
They don't hate him....
Not as much as the right does anyway...
Islamic radicals are conservative. They wish to turn back time much as the tea party seeks to bring us back to 1776.
The term you are seeking is
The term you are seeking is "reactionary". Equating modern political 'conservatives' with ISIS is pretty offensive.
I don't follow. Neocons aren
I don't follow. Neocons aren't conservative, they're reactionary. ISIS isn't conservative, it's reactionary. Am I wrong?
Right wing fundamentalist ISIS wants
to redraw Middle East borders to reflect the "Caliphate" or a pre colonial Mid East. Neocons are the most vehement of conservatives exploiting every fart in the Mid east to call for War.
You didn't answer my question
ISIS is reactionary.
Neocons are reactionary.
Do you disagree with either statement? If so, why?
Neocons aren't themselves reactionary.
They espouse a philosophy that someone else will fight their battles as they sip Brandy at the think tank.
There isn't a day that goes by in the right wing media
that progressives aren't compared to Hitler, Stalin or Charles Manson. When the poop splatters on them its "offensive". Look at NRO the alleged conservative thinking mans bible. Today Obama is Stalin, The Pope the anti-Christ and Elizabeth Warren the devil.
I do not think the O.P.'s point was that Islamic radicals are progressive so much as that the people who are supporting Tsarnaev are progressive. But to your point, that is the paradox, right? Progressives supporting a religion that would eliminate progressive values. Mark Steyn does a whole riff on this (I paraphrase) "if the Muslims take over, I'll grow my beard a little longer, my house of worship will have a dome etc, but I'll be all right....but how long will your L/G/B/T lifestyle will be allowed etc etc"
He is among the many wing nut parrots that equate all things evil as having progressive/liberal ties.
much like the left want to
much like the left want to keep the constitution in full force event though its 2014 and times have changed. works both ways
Damn straight, skippy!
Although liberals recognize the Founding Fathers were smart enough to include a way to amend the constitution, unlike certain conservatives, who find many of those amendments, such as the 14th, 17th and 19th, distasteful.
Damn you, you enlightened fool.
Forgive me as I must see to it the slaves get more done before sundown.
Tsarnaev supporters rank up
Tsarnaev supporters rank up there with holocaust deniers, 9/11 'truthers', ISIS/AlQ supporters, Stalinists, Maoists, The Phelp's 'church', and Neo-Nazis for scumbaggery.
And beliebers. You forgot
And beliebers. You forgot beliebers.
Don't forget the woman who's marrying Charles Manson
There are prisoner fan girls all over the place. Even Charlie Manson has found the lid to his pot.
Forget everything else, but
Forget everything else, but if you believe in the original story about 9/11 I question your critical thinking skills. I had always questioned the original story. The way the towers fell down, the building fell straight down with no resistance. We're talking about massive amounts of steel and concrete just completely collapsing. Please check out architect for 9/11 truth and then tell me what you believe. http://www.ae911truth.org/
"In America we have reached the point where anyone who tells the truth is dismissed as a "conspiracy theorist" and marginalized. 1,500 architects and engineers, who actually know something about buildings, are regarded as conspiracy kooks by people who know nothing whatsoever."
We have vaccines AND fluoride ... and we know how to use them!!!
I know I shouldn't do this, but...
The weight from above collapsed on the structure below. It's called pancaking. If you watch video of the towers collapsing, you'll see no movement from below until weigh presses down from above. The reason the tower that was hit second went down first was that there was more weight being exerted downwards after the structure was compromised. I've never studied engineering, but even I can figure out that.
But thanks for putting one crackpot conspiracy theory in a thread about another crackpot conspiracy theory.
Do not represent the "Left" or "Right".
They are "Mentally Ill"
Thank you for pointing out
Thank you for pointing out that they are women.
They are also human beings!
They are also human beings! Shocking and antiprogressive to state, I know
Although I am fully aware that there is due process in this country, and that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty, I just don't get this whole Tsarnaev fan club thing. And it is even more widespread than just Tsarnaev . There seems to be a whole subculture of women who have a thing for these criminal types. Marrying men in jail, etc. It's odd.
I blame the 'dreamy' Rolling
I blame the 'dreamy' Rolling Stone' cover.
Fucarile stopped, lifted his
What that is is evidence that Fucarile is a victim of a crime—not that Tsarnaev is necessarily responsible.
ding ding ding ding ding ding
ding ding ding ding ding ding!!!!!!!!!!!
You sir have hit the nail on the coffin
These buckets have
a First Amendment right to be assholes. Hopefully their antics will haunt them forever.
Ask Jane Fonda how that works
Ask Jane Fonda how that works out.........
Nothing has changed She is still
Not that I'd know, but I
Not that I'd know, but I suspect you wouldn't either. So, when IS the last time you read about anything Jane Fonda did in the past 40+ years?
She had that VHS
exercise tape with Richard and Gene Simmons.
Well then, I'm sorry...
...that you weren't able to fully eliminate your moobs and love handles, but really, that's no reason to blame the exercise tape.
I found the Nautilus machine more effective
then spinning that North Vietnamese anti aircraft gun.
Google Alstory Simon to read
Google Alstory Simon to read about the underbelly of the Innocence Project.
Trolls be like "there needs to be a fair trial."
These antics are just going to ruin any prospect for clemecy for Tsarnaev. I have to wonder whether that's their real aim.
