The naked truth on display

Naked bike riders

Arturo Gossage was at the Parkman Bandstand last night, watching the start of the annual naked bike ride down Newbury and Mass. Ave. into Cambridge. Not all participants went full Monty.

Sadly, from my 5th-floor South End condo, I saw nothing as nice as this out my window.

You'd think all bikers would be in better shape!

As nice as what, exactly?

As nice as the guy on the left, obviously.

He has a legit biker tan and the body fat percentage to show for it.

Not because folks are gettin' nekkid.

Because some of those folks are GODDAMN USING THE HUBWAY BIKES.

Seriously... not cool one bit.

Next time you're riding a hubway bike naked, just think, someone else might have been riding it naked before you!

That's pretty much why I always wear clothes when using rental equipment of any kind.

Clothes or not.

Do you lick your bike seats when you rent them or something?

Read a book and learn how bacteria / germs etc. can and can't make you sick. Don't cry because you think something's "gross" because you're ignorant and still hold the same views you did as a child.

So we can say that you'll the first to ride on that hubway bike that was used without any clothes on also?

As in "bring antibacterial wipes and wipe down the equipment when you are done".

Glad that I got my city bike back from the shop, though. If I do use a hubway, I'll give it a good wipedown first. At least, unlike the T, the seats aren't absorbent!

Note that while clothing will take care of most worries, you do have to touch the seat to change the seat height ...

I was trying to be funny since the anon post was snarky. But whateves.

I know all about germ transmission, this is also why I have zero issue with using (most) public rest rooms, while others get grossed out at the thought. Except Backbay, I will *ONLY* stand up at Backbay *shiver*

And yes you SHOULD wipe down a hubway bike before use. Its like gym equipment. Sweaty, Dirty, Hands.. maybe not so for the germs but just generally sticky and sweaty.

I was just being a dick I am far from a germophobe but it is pretty disgusting to ride a bike naked because of how the seat is shaped. Seems like it would kinda... get in there. If we lived in a country where people used bidets it would be different but most people are waking around with nasty swampy butt caverns.

Also I know you guys love to hate I anonymous posters but I have tried to sign up for this site twice and i never got the email with a sign up link. You can tell who I am by my unnecessarily long posts and equally unnecessary vitriol for people I don't even know and topics so trivial they don't even warrant discussion

Thanks for reading

Sincerely yours
The guy you see at machine by himself not talking to anyone the whole night

well let me tag AdamG in this post, and maybe he'll look in his sign up queue. I think sometimes he doesn't get notification when he needs to approve new accounts and/or the system is a bit quirky.

If he doens't reply. send him a message on here.

Not every cyclist will be superfit - some of us are just vastly more fit than our relatives (and much of US society). By my age, nearly everybody in my immediate family weighed in over 300lbs. I credit cycling with keeping me out of that club.

Fitness is not the same as thinness anyway. You can be thin and not be fit; you can be fit and not be thin.

Not to be a prude, but aren't there laws against public nudity? Do they have to get a nudity permit or something?
