Phoenix Media empire gets even smaller

WPRI reports that the Providence Phoenix will publish its final issue next Thursday, ending nearly 36 years of service to Rhode Island. The Boston Phoenix stopped publishing in March 2013.

With the Providence paper's closing, only the weekly Portland Phoenix remains of what was once a large regional media empire: Boston Phoenix, Providence Phoenix, Portland Phoenix, Worcester Phoenix, [email protected] magazine, WFNX radio, and the Spanish-language El Planeta newspaper.

He should never be forgiven for selling 'FNX. It left a huge hole in Boston radio.

True. If he had to sell it, he could've found a buyer that wouldn't have gutted it and eliminated 25 jobs in the process.

Don't forget his free weekly "At Nite", basically a listing of escort services -- that's still around.

(I wonder if this practice stopped because one of the bands objected to being put on this cover?)
