It's one thing when gang bangers go after each other, but it's all the more shocking and maddening when an innocent person just walking along has to suffer. Let us not forget Dawn Jaffier, either. Something needs to be done to stop this madness.

were common during the 70s, 80s, etc. Nothing new about random urban violence. It's been an epidemic for at least 40 years in America. No plan or scheme has worked in this time to really effectively combat the problem at it's core. And nothing will be done now.

What??? You are joking, right? Random urban violence is not an epidemic. A lot can be done to make sure that innocent people minding their own business aren't shot in the head!

Random violence in certain neighborhoods is a big problem and has been for many decades. If people think all street violence involves gangs shooting and jumping other thugs, they are dead wrong. Many innocent people get jumped, robbed, pistol whipped, even stabbed or shot, all the time. When I was living as a kid in JP in the late 80s it was a huge issue.

Well, I and the police I've met at neighborhood watch meetings disagree with you. The majority of gun violence occurs when there are specific targets in the perpetrator's mind. This doesn't stop someone from getting hit in the crosshairs, unfortunately.

And you know what? It's not random: someone specifically set out to do something. That's not random.

And the JP of today is nothing like the JP of the late 80's.

Our murder rate is less than that of Chicago. Boston has less gang presence than L.A. You can draw many comparisons to assuage what happened, but "it happens and nothing can be done" attitude doesn't change the facts: a guy walking home from work randomly got shot in the head at 5pm on a crowded street. That is appalling.

Crime has been going down drastically for the past 20 years. The major drivers of it in the cities are gangs and drug addicts. Break the gangs and the cycle of addiction and crime evaporates to almost nothing.

Simple - treat all violent street gangs as domestic terrorists. No pony-tailed public defender, no illegal search bullcrap, no plea bargains. Known gangbanger? Caught with a gun? Welcome to Gitmo!

Even terrorists detained on American soil have rights, including the right to counsel, to a jury trial, to confront witnesses, etc., etc., etc.

Your alternative leads straight to star chambers, thought police, confessions through torture and Martin Neimoller.

Don't like it? Take it up with the Supreme Court.

Where's the mayor???? He's awfully quiet— two shootings in one night — both in his neighborhood?? One just feet from a polling station? The other one in Savin Hill a few blocks from his house, And we get details on this three days later??? Get on it.

This is sad, very sad!! I pray that this man is okay. My head hurts as well as my heart to read and hear about the violence that takes place here in Boston as well as all over the world!! Ive lost family and friends due to violence and as much as it needs to stop, I know it wont. May God reach these people during times like this and work through those who do bs like this!!
