The word "Colliding" bring to mind things of comparable mass hitting each other...this looks more like absorption...hope all are ok.

Did the bicyclist slash it's tires?

Probably part of the bike ended up embedded in a tire, I'd guess.

But I haven't known bikes to shatter like that, plus that'd have to be quite an impact to pierce the tire of a giant vehicle like that. Not sure I buy that.

Are made of metal and are often quite sharp.

This area is pretty tame compared the wild west of Mass Ave and some of the tiny one-way streets in Cambridge. Hope the bicyclist is OK.

I use Harvard to avoid Central Square in general, and typically reach it via Inman.

Also, Cambridge Public Works folks are generally far better trained/more aware of the cyclists all around them than their peers in pretty much any other city in the area.

It will be interesting to find out what happened ... and if it moves up the usual CPD cyclist crackdown that typically occurs in early October. (they do a motorist crackdown in late August/early September with the crossing guards out a day or two early).

I just spotted a DPW truck outside my window in Inman after hearing a diamond blade saw roaring.

They are cutting locks on ineptly locked bikes and tossing them in a truck. Presumably the owner can claim them at the DPW headquarters.

I agree -- this is a pretty calm part of town, and nobody drives or bikes very fast through here.

Why do some automatically blame the truck driver? Looking at the comments posted below pics by Ms. Busch, every comment demonizes the truck 'guys', and complains they need better 'training'. It could be the fault of the driver, it may not be. It may be the fault of the bicyclist. It may be a simple, unavoidable accident.

You ride a bike in a place like Cambridge or Boston, you have to be extremely aware of your surroundings and not take any risk involving a internal combustion engine vehicle vs bike; the bike is no match,it'll always lose, and the rider will frequently be badly injured or worse killed. If you have ANY doubts about a situation confronting you, ALWAYS err on the side of caution. This also applies to car, suv, van, motorcyclists, truck drivers, and pedestrians.

It seems to me some take any situation and immediately like to apply or project blame or fault. It makes me feel immediately suspect about the validity of the arguments of said people.

They are horrible. They are subcontractors handling recyclables for Cambridge.

They have some high strung asshole woman in charge who rides herd on them and they are always behind the 8 ball. She may be the owners daughter or some such shit.

https://flic.kr/p/nCFUPG is one of my all time classic masshole captures.

The stupid bitch blocked Amory street in the photo for a half hour cause she was in some shrill panic about a Doctor Suess load of leaf trash bags that simply HAD to be offloaded NOW!!!

This sent a ripple of panic through her poor browbeat minions and the result is what you see. That's her getting out of the smaller trash truck.

Typical cowboy legend in their own mind bullshit. The city regulars in both Somerville and Cambridge really loathe them for being a union buster outfit. I got her busted with the city using the photo.

Part of my firm belief in gender equality includes despising self absorbed, self important assholes of both genders with equal vehemence and she's a real winner. .

The S and S management parking lot is right outside my window and one of their people was trying to get something to a catering truck in that lot as the other mess was underway.

And people in small cars where doing crazy sidewalk bypass maneuvers out of Amory street to get through making it even more hazardous.

Just checked it out and it is pretty good - good snaps! Fresh Pond area during rush hour is a good time to see boneheaded driving, there is even a Whole Foods there, but it is the drive thru Dunkin that also causes problems.

Any news on the investigation on last week's collision in Medford?

Seeing the baby seat under there is kind of chilling.

The driver was probably distracted by getting yelled at on a nextel phone or something. A mini panic ensued with a frantic turn down Inman as the hapless bicyclist approached from a blind side.

They'll be hitting my neighborhood today. I wonder how it'll work out.

I wonder why people take delicate creatures like infants on bicycles in the traffic hell messes we have, but the baby seat was unoccupied this time.
