Walsh: No, I don't want to move the Beanpot to Belfast

Maybe Marty Walsh needs to stop talking to reporters about his trip to Ireland. For the second time this month, the mayor says a reporter had him saying something he didn't really say. Mayoral spokeswoman Kate Norton says:

Today Mayor Walsh expressed his support for a ‘Belfast Beanpot’ - an initiative proposed by the Odyssey Trust, to host 4-6 college hockey teams from the Boston area to play a tournament in Northern Ireland. The tournament would not replace the Beanpot. This would not be an effort to 'move' the Beanpot out of Boston.

I spoke with the Mayor following the impressive press and social media firestorm that followed his interview earlier today. He conveyed to me, in no uncertain terms, that – particularly as a Boston College grad and a hockey fan - he would never move a classic Boston event like the Beanpot out of our City.

To every local politician. Every Boston politician runs on a school, crime and job platform, yet our schools still suck.

The last major school "reform" was the indrutuction of charter schools. Which isn't a change to BPSs status quo. It's more of a reduction of a physical burden (students) to the system. And yes I refered to pupils as a burden because BPS is more so a Union employment agency than an institution of education.

Ps don't bitch about my grammar, I'm on my cell.

Walsh speaks intelligible English and is constantly misquoted by the media. So how the Hell did the media manage to quote Menino correctly all these years?

Maybe if he thought before he opened his mouth, he wouldn't say silly things his flacks have to retract.

before they wrote, they would get the story right.

I'm not so sure what the problem is either... the media misquoted the mayor, but for some reason the mayor needs to stop talking about his trip to Ireland? I guess I'm missing something?

because I didn't see a discussion of this folly anywhere else.

Also, there is now no doubt in my mind that the phones at City Hall were ringing off the hook with 617-552 numbers (BC) saying "what the hell is wrong with you guys?!? Are you out of your minds?!?"

There was a post here, and mind you they just decided to change everything about their article. I might "troll" it a bit to see if there is interest in college hockey fans making the voyage to the North. From a recruiting standpoint, with the weird desire of Finns to play college hockey, it would be the ultimate cheap recruiting trip.

I'm going to change my matchups-
BU-Penn State
Holy Cross-Minnesota Duluth

4 different conferences, and a good chance of BU taking home the hardware. Of course, after 2 consecutive 4th place finishes at the Beanpot, perhaps I might be speaking too soon.
