20-condo building proposed for River near West in Hyde Park

1189 River St.

Architect's rendering.

A developer wants to tear down the single-family home he owns at 1081 River St. and replace it with a 20-unit condo building.

The BRA holds a meeting for residents to discuss Kevin Norton's proposal for 14 one-bedroom condos and 6 two-bedroom units, all between 600 and 900 square feet, at 6:30 p.m. on April 15 at the Hyde Park Municipal Building.

The $2.9-million project would have 20 parking spaces in a first-floor garage.

The neighborhood currently contains many multi-family dwelling buildings and the project proposed will not create a detriment to the current neighborhood context and density.

I must insist you remove the caption of "Architect's rendering" and put "Some horseshit a fuckwit with a graphics package put together in five minutes" or "Lowest bidders' lowest effort at a rendering."

'This level of drawing is all the developer paid for.'

It's an elevation with some shading to show that there is depth to parts of it. Down and dirty.

Remember when architects could actually draw?

What the heck happened!?

This is what happens when the AIA chooses to not help the profession out. Homeowners with any dumb graphics program think they are architects. And the profession becomes a race to the bottom.

ETA: these are not dumb homeowners, but rather a firm out of Salem. I happen to know the guy whose name is on the drawings.

So you're saying when I do floor plans and elevation documents in Microsoft Visio I'm not an architect?

(kidding!)

;-)

There is so much paperwork and liability that Architects don't get to architect very much these days.

but you - you can have architect with a little a. :D
