Back Bay could get all-day breakfast place

The Friendly Toast, which has an outlet in Kendall Square, wants to move into space being vacated by a Mexican restaurant at 76 Stanhope St.

The Boston Licensing Board considers the Friendly Toast's request to buy Zocalo Cocina's liquor license at a hearing next Wednesday.

According to its application, the Friendly Toast wants to keep Zocalo's 2 a.m. closing time. It would have 161 seats indoors, room for 45 more people to eat standing up and an outdoor patio with 46 seats.

The board's hearings begin at 10 a.m. in its eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.

zocalo is leaving? That is a huge disappointment, I really like that place.

Loved the food there. Anyone know if they're currently open? They had a woman making the corn tortillas fresh right behind the bar.

Love The Friendly Toast! This would be a fantastic addition downtown. A place with some actual character and very diverse menu.

I remember them talking about wanting the Kendall location to be open 24 hours when it first opened. This would be a good spot to be open past 2AM on the weekend since its a busy area and its neighbors are other restaurants and a small park.

This is GREAT news for my lazy ass (hell no I don't wanna go to Kendall Square, let alone Portsmouth!), and VERY bad news for my wallet/liver. Mmm, Hitchcocktails.

Am I the only one who doesn't get the Friendly Toast? Everything there seems to have weird sauces, with combinations of sweet and spicy. And I wanted to get some soup, but all they had was spicy soup with cheese.

I always found their food just...weird. Like something your post-college roommate would cook up for breakfast with leftovers from their catering gig. And so this is next to Flour? Kind of a strange spot to open a breakfast joint though not if they're aiming for the spinach raspberry avocado scramble at 2am crowd.

I haven't eaten all day, so I might be missing something (foggy headed on an empty stomach).

Do they want to close the Kendall Square location and relocate to the Back Bay location? Or, do they want to open ANOTHER location in the Back Bay and keep the Kendall Square location open?
