Car flies off Rte. 2 and smashes into car on overpass above the highway in Arlington

State Police report on a bizarre collision in Arlington shortly before 7 p.m. that injured two. According to State Police:

Preliminary investigation suggests that a 2015 Ford Fiesta operated by a 77 year old male from Cambridge was traveling east on route 2 and left the roadway in the area of exit 59, which the Pleasant Street overpass in Belmont near the Arlington line. The vehicle traveled up an embankment, crashed through a guardrail, becoming airborne and eventually landing on to Pleasant Street where it collided with a 1995 Honda Civic operated by a 20 year old female from Winchester.

The Fiesta driver suffered serious, but apparently not life-threatening, injuries and was taken to Mass. General. The Civic driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Winchester Hospital.

I passed this scene minutes after it occurred. Flashing lights all over the overpass. And police still rushing to the scene as I passed, although I passed before 7.
