Thomas Martin took this video around 5 a.m. on St. William Street in Dorchester. He reports the sound of the exploding tires were what woke him up.
He also took video on the other side.

Hydrant
Can't really tell in the dark and smoky videos but one wonders if the car was blocking the hydrant [it was definitely looked far too close to be legal]. And then one wonders if this was not a bit of vigilante arson. Cars don't usually lite themselves on fire while parked.
They don't usually
But they do it often enough for it not to surprising. Ask a car insurance adjuster and they will tell you lots of stories about such things. You may not even have to ask - I swear some keep a list of crazy shit handy for small talk at parties.
Electricity, flammables, aging wiring, corrosion, and neglected maintenance all lend themselves to a car "lighting itself on fire" while parked.
Don't ask this adjuster
because I would tell you cars rarely catch fire unless the ignition is in the on position, with the exception of arson or parking over flammable materials ie: dry grass/leaves.
When you start the car it might
I had a neighbor many years ago who had a car light up after he started. Burned right in his driveway.
