Don't worry: Readville wasn't blowing up tonight

Loud booming coming from south of Hyde Park was actually Milton's WeAreMilton shooting off fireworks to celebrate the Miltonness of Milton.

We heard 'em in Canton, and a web search turned up a mention that Braintree was celebrating their 375th with fireworks tonight, but I doubt we'd hear them that far away.

Braintree's 4th fireworks/parade/festivities (and coinciding 375th celebration this year) are always the Saturday on the weekend before the 4th.

the booms were pretty loud. Loud enough to agitate the dog. Surprised the noise traveled so well from Milton.

Also heard the fireworks in Back Bay. Seemed like it was much closer.

IIRC, sound carries better when there's a storm. When I lived in Arlington Center, I could clearly hear the trains at night during big storms, but not at any other time. Last night, I could hear the fireworks from Lower Mills and got a very nice view of them from my apartment. They were lovely.

Hope your dog is happier today. Their ears are so sensitive!

dog is fine. He was barking back at every boom.

Sometimes I hear the trains at Forest Hills clearly but usually not at all. Glad you had a good view of the fireworks.

The sounds bounce off the layer of clouds and travel a lot further than they would on a clear night. I get a lot better TV reception off the antenna on a cloudy night because the signal does the same thing.
