The Dukes of West Roxbury are selling their car

Car with Confederate license plate for sale in West Roxbury

If the only thing missing in your life is a '70s-era Mercury Cougar with a Confederate license plate on the front, you're in luck: It's for sale on Spring Street in West Roxbury, next to Sunray Cleaners at Baker Street.

That old dude has always had sick cars. I think he just sold his yellow Plymouth a few months ago.

Okay, I'm as anti-confederate-flag as you can get (for bonafides, see my inflammatory comments on the Ancient and Honorable post). But can we please agree now that not every rebel flag license plate is newsworthy?

Is bad, but defacing monuments and graves is a OK.

The real racist scum are people defacing grave stones. But you hold issue with a northern guy attaching a nostalgic plate on a car for sale.

Yes it had a racist past but that was a long time ago. Remember who predominantly died fighting on behalf of African slaves. White northerners.

Are the ones parading that flag through black neighborhoods and then whining that people don't like them, the ones who even a Republican congressman call out for waving that flag when the president shows up to honor people from his state (a state that was not even part of the Lost Cause).

It's nice you don't see race anymore, but that's not really how this world works.

Maybe we should wipe out history like the nazi did.

Because no African American ever owned salves in the country.

Because you obviously never had a parent tell you that two wrongs don't make a right.

Given the spelling and overall gestalt of this comment and the next, I'd say it actually is possible that this anon WAS raised (or at least educated) by wolves.

Forward Isish descendants could gain minority status. It's not like we were ever indentured servants or people hung sings in businesses condemning us.

White Privilege.

Asian American are waiting as are the Italians.

Think progress.

Isish descendants

1) Are you a descendant of Isis?
2) Were you an indentured servant?

I think the FBI ought to be investifarting this...

Adam, in which Boston neighborhood did this happen? I don't recall previous posts about people running the confederate flag locally.

Sorry, I was referring to this incident in a majority-black town in Virginia involving some good old boys who just wanted to have a peaceful "run" through the town with their stars and bars.

Locally, the closest we get is this house in Dedham, although to be fair, they've been flying an American flag for the last few months.

I used to think it was a great white guilt thing with you but I'm starting to think its click/comment bait. But it's how you make your living so good luck.

Have you read this? Have you processed it? Have you thought for half a second about what these symbols mean to people other than you, you brave white man?

It's still racist. That flag has been used for pro-segregation rallies as recently as the 70's, and right here in Boston to protest busing as recently as the 80's. The Klan and other white nationalist groups use it today.

Its power is hardly diluted by the passing of time since the Civil War. Its commonplace usage has only solidified its place as the preeminent symbol of white supremacist ideology in America.

And let's not go disparaging the Dukes too hard, if I remember anything at all about the show they were extremely anti-authoritarian against the ultimate white-clad fatcat: Boss Hogg.

Some old geezer with a dixie flag on his clunker generates more attention and outrage than a whole bunch if shootings. Talk about priorities...

Yes he has had some really cool cars there. The yellow Plymouth you mentioned was a 68 Roadrunner. I happened to be stuck at that light one day when he was pulling out of his driveway with it and he went down the street sideways and fish tailing as he was switching gears. It was awesome to see it. Everyone who was stuck in traffic started pulling out cellcameras and cheering him on. He also owns a few classic Cadillacs which are yellow too.
