Early morning fire at South Station doesn't stop trains

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded at 3:49 a.m. to South Station for a fire in the ceiling above tracks 5 and 6:

This was a small fire but directly above the 25,000 volt power line for the trains.

There was also an empty train on the tracks that needed to be moved first before the power was cut. This took a while to do.

Once train was moved, power cut and verified, the fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

Ian Meropol reports:

Even with the fire at South Station, the 5:05am still left on time -- well done Amtrak.
