A guy can dream, can't he?

Hopeful man at Sullivan's at Castle Island

We weren't the only ones to head to Castle Island this afternoon - including this guy peering hopefully into the closed Sullivan's, which, believe it or not, is scheduled to open this coming Saturday.

This guy seemed to like the conditions just fine:

As you can see from the photo, Pleasure Bay (and beyond it, Dorchester Bay), was pretty much frozen over. On the harbor side, though, the water was still liquid.

I get the local tradition thing, but seriously that is some nasty greasy grub. I've been there three times with various friends and relatives who had to have it and I don't get what people are raving about. It's the sorta stuff you eat at low-end amusement park or on boat when you can't leave.

I think that is kinda the point.

It's like what I say about McDonald's.. You go to McDonald's not because you want a good hamburger, you go to McDonald's because its McDonald's.

Same with Sullivans.. you go there because its Sullivan's, not because its very good food.

Their lobster rolls are delicious and a pretty damn good value for the price. Grilled cheese is $2.99 -- when you're on a budget, nothing beats lunch out for $3 with an awesome view. Sorry that it's too low-end for your tastes.

Yesterday would have been a fantastic day for a run out there.

Nope. They gave up after the first two storms. I ran it yesterday and it's packed down but will be slippery now that the temp has dipped again.

I ran along the Charles in Watertown/newton. The north side was not great but coming back on the south side was like Jeremiah Johnson.
Charles in Brighton was not good!

I tried my usual route a week and a half ago and ended up depressed. Last Friday I checked out a cemetery (not well plowed, no parking, and duh, a funeral) and ended up at Pope John Paul II Park, where between the trail and park I got 2 miles in.

I feel for the marathon trainers. The cold is nothing, but snow, snow everywhere!
