Hotel proposes new rooms not aimed at people arriving on private jets

Proposed expansion of Holiday Inn in Dorchester

Architect's vision.

The Holiday Inn Express off the Southeast Expressway in Dorchester is seeking BRA permission to add 60 rooms for budget-conscious visitors to Boston.

In a filing with the BRA, the Boston Street hotel says the proposed five-story addition where the Bickford's used to be near South Bay "will provide additional economy lodging options in Boston, in stark contrast to most hotel projects proposed in Boston in recent years."

The hotel says the revamped hotel will spruce up the aesthetics of a key entrance to the city and add 15-20 new hotel jobs.

Is that people see an opportunity in AirBNB, Couchsurfing.com and others. Rent a condo out 20 nights a month and you will collect more than you would renting to poor recent grads on a 12 month lease.

I wish the hotel was allowed three more stories. We have to build many more hotel rooms to make our Boston rates reasonable.

Boston rates will never be reasonable.

it will attract more than "budget conscious visitors", just one more thing the Newmarket neighborhood needs

It's on the other side of South Bay, so getting to the methadone mile would be a bit of a walk.

Of course, Andrew Square is a short distance away.

Oh, it's waaaay over on the other side of the South Bay Mall. Yeah, that's a real hike

Seems reasonable. I hate that style of building but it actually works for this project and we do need more hotel rooms in the city that aren't 200$+ a night.

Where are the hotel rooms in Boston right now that aren't $200 a night? Stay at that Holiday Inn Express tonight and it'll cost you $269, more than $300 with taxes. I have a feeling the new rooms aren't going to be any cheaper.
